Question

Greetings from Germany! I would like to know what you think will happen in Harry Potter ?
Is Dumbledore going to give instructions as a portrait in the headmasters office?

Answer

First of all, I apologize for the length when I get on a roll, its difficult to stop. So, on to the answers...brbr. Rowling has made it clear in several interviews that the portraits in Dumbledores office are not ghosts or the spirits of past headmastersmistresses. They are more like an echo of who the person was, while they are capable of communication of a sort it is more likely a reproduction of what the persons character was in life. Consider the portrait of Sirius mother in OOTP. Definitely a very accurate portrayal of her, according to Sirius, but there wasnt much communication going on, she was simply repeating things she probably said throughout her life. I believe the same will hold true for Dumbledores portrait in Book . Unlike Nearly Headless Nick and the other Hogwarts ghosts, I just cannot imagine Dumbledore being afraid of passing on, Im fairly certain he is gone. What was it he said in book , discussing Nicholas Flamel? quotTo the wellorganized mind, death is but the next great adventure.quot He knew in his search for the horcruxes that death could find him at any moment. As great a wizard as he was, he would have been prepared for it. While his portrait will probably be there to offer Harry encouragement, he wont be able to give him instructions.brbr. Ive read quite a bit on the theory that Harry is Voldemorts th horcrux, and Im not buying it, for several reasons. The first one is quite simple Dumbledore. Consider what a great wizard he was. How he was capable of simply looking at an object to determine whether magic had been performed. He found the cave in HBP simply by looking at a rock wall, I dont believe it would have escaped his notice that his favorite student, the one who he watched more closely than any other, was carrying a bit of Voldemorts soul around in his forehead. Secondly, as we learned in HBP, there is a spell required to create a horcrux. However, the horcrux can only be created and the spell performed after the tearing of the soul. A horcrux cannot be created accidentally. Voldemort went to Godrics Hollow to kill Harry, based on the information he had received about the prophecy. As he thought Harry would one day be capable of destroying him, he wouldnt have wanted to give Harry a bit of his soul, probably would have thought that would help him on his way being, of course, incapable of recognizing the power of a pure, untarnished soul. He might have wanted to create his final horcrux following Harrys death, which was Dumbledores theory, but never had the chance. However, I see absolutely no reason to believe that Harry could be the th horcrux.brbr. I dont think Harry will die, for one simple reason Rowling isnt a fool. Consider how many millions of fans she has across the world. How many of them would be happy with that ending? Im just saying, while I would certainly never accuse her of altering her writing to keep the fans happy, this is a big one. Also, several people have postulated that killing the hero is a good way as an author to prevent another writer from continuing the series. Writers have been known to do crazier things than bring people back from the dead, I dont believe Harrys death would stop anyone from writing another HP book. Whether or not anyone would want to publish it is another story. Besides, the central theme of the entire series thus far has been good triumphing over evil. So, unless Harry dies in the process of killing Voldemort, I dont see it happening.brbr. Ive seen several of the answers to this question, and I take issue with the people who believe it could be any of the trio. Consider Rowlings actual words or as closely as I can get them by paraphrasing quotTwo people I didnt think were going to die do, and one Id intended to die gets a reprieve.quot Okay, she has been writing this series for nearly years now. She has had the entire plot line worked out for the better part of those eighteen years. She wrote the final chapter to book years ago. Do you honestly think after all this time, and after so carefully laying out the plot that is so intricately interwoven from book to book, she suddenly changed her mind and decided that Harry or Ron or Hermione were going to die? I dont see that happening. If they do die, its because it was planned that way all along. But I dont believe any of the trio could be the two she changed her mind about, or the one who she decided to let live. In my opinion, possibilities for those roles could be Hagrid, McGonagall, Snape, Malfoy, a nonRon or Ginny Weasley, Firenze, even Lupin or Tonks.brbrNaturally, all of this is simply speculation and my opinion, but there you have it...again, sorry for the length. Hope this helped!
